Metrogyl 400 MG Tablet is known to be a popular antifungal and antibacterial. Metrogyl is manufactured by Morepen Labs. Metrogyl 400 can either be used on its own or in combination with other medication for curing endocarditis, inflammatory diseases, trichomoniasis, dracunculiasis, giardiasis and amebiasis. However, Metrogyl Medicine is known for the treatment of only a few parasitic and bacterial infections of the vagina, respiratory tract, joints and skin. Metrogyl Tablet is sold with the trade name of Flagyl ER and Flagyl.

Side Effects

Metrogyl dose is decided by the doctor depending upon various factors like your age, gender and your current health condition. For a bacterial infection, the usual Metrogyl dosage in adults is known to be about 7.5 mg orally in every 6 hours for a period of 7 to 10 days. Dose of Metrogyl differs from person to person like Metrogyl pediatric dose might be different from adults dose. In case of Metrogyl overdose, you must get medical attention as soon as possible.

Precautions and How to Use

Before you start taking Metrogyl 400 Tablet, you must consult your doctor about the current medications list, allergies, any pre-existing diseases, your present condition of health(such as any upcoming surgery, pregnancy, etc.), over the counter products(like herbal supplements, vitamins etc.). Some of the health conditions may make you more prone to the side effects of Metrogyl 400 Tablet.

You must take this tablet as prescribed by your doctor or you must follow the directions which are printed on the product insert. Metrogyl 400 mg dosage is based on your current health condition and other factors. As Metrogyl dose in child will differ from that of an adult. Hypersensitivity to Metrogyl 400 Tablet is known to be a well-known metrogyl contraindication. In addition to that, Metrogyl tablet must not be taken if you are suffering from any of the below-mentioned conditions:
  • Lower seizure threshold
  • Seizures
  • Alcohol intoxication
  • Excessive Alcohol consumption
  • Liver disease
  • Tingling or pain of feet or hands

Action and Related Warnings

There are a few Actions and related warnings you must consider while taking it :

Alcohol : Metrogyl and Alcohol should not be taken together as may lead to a few symptoms like flushing, nausea, thirst, increased heartbeat, chest pain and low blood pressure(Disulfiram reactions).

PregnancyMetrogyl in pregnancy is considered to be safe to consume. Some of the animal studies show low or no ill effect on the foetus, however, there are only a limited studies performed on humans. You must get in touch with your doctor.

Lactation : During lactation, Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet must be used with extra caution. Breast feeding should not be done along with this medication till the complete treatment of the mother is done and the medicine is completely eliminated from her body. If the mother has taken a single dose of Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet, she must hold breastfeeding for at least 12-24 hours for the removal of the drug from the body.

Driving : You must not drive under influence of this medicine until you are feeling well. Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet might make you feel dizzy, sleepy and confused. Under the influence of Metrogyl Tablet, you might also experience hallucinations, fits (convulsions) or eyesight problems for some time (like blurred or double vision) which might affect your ability to drive.

Kidney : In patients suffering from kidney disease, Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet is considered quite safe to use. No adjustment of dose is recommended. Patients who are undergoing kidney dialysis must only take this tablet after the dialysis treatment is finished.

Liver : In patients suffering from liver disease, Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet must be taken with extra caution. Adjustment of dose of Metrogyl 400 mg Tablet may be recommended. Please get in touch with your doctor.
